Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant (NA) will participate in Veteran-centered activities, and will support Veteran personal preferences. Maintain positive patient/resident/family relationships, which include recognizing and understanding relevant social and spiritual factors. Provide patient/resident personal hygiene care by giving assistance with toileting, bathing, hand/finger nail care, foot care, oral hygiene, and shaves. Provide for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients/residents as necessary; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals; ambulating, turning, and positioning patient/residents as needed. Provide patient/resident comfort by utilizing available resources and materials; escorting patient/residents within Albany Stratton VAMC and to other VA facilities for appointments/transfers where indicated; answering patient/residents' call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient/resident to the nursing supervisor; communicating with patients/residents; utilizing de-escalation skills, when needed. Participate in patient groups and activities. Provide constant observation for suicidal patients. Document actions, observations, and education provided by completing forms, reports, and records in CPRS NA care. Maintain work operations by following policies and procedures. Protect organization's values by keeping patient/resident information confidential. Will be assigned to care for COVID Veteran patients. Work Schedule:

One year above high school with courses related to the Nursing Assistant occupation. Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3. English language proficiency:
Nursing Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. American Heart Association BLS Certification required. Preferred
Experience:
Certification as a Nursing Assistant with experiencing in a long term care setting. Grade Determinations:
GS-5:
One year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-4 level which demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities that are directly related to the specific assignment. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below; OR Education:
Successful completion of a 4 year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included 24 semester hours of courses related to health care or possession of a bachelor's degree; AND Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs - 1. Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to patients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long term care or outpatient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocation Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. 2. Ability to communicate orally with patients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. This includes serving as a preceptor to new nursing assistants by assisting with coordination of their orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. 3. Ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc. References:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
