Qualifications: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or noncompetitive 55b/c service as a Information Technology Specialist 1 OR be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 1 eligible list OR be eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval.
Duties DescriptionThe New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Specialist 1. This position is located in the ITS Help Desk/Training unit and provides technology support to over 2800 SED staff. The duties associated with this position include, but are not be limited to:
Fielding phone calls and e-mail from NYSED staff/customers reporting technology problems and/or requesting assistance with use of technology products;
Working with customers to analyze software and hardware problems and arriving at a solution;
Utilizing software tools to assist customers;
Creating written summaries of problems encountered by customers;
Creating written instructions explaining features of computer hardware and software;
Assisting in training activities, preparing course materials, etc.;
Presenting materials regarding computer hardware or software to small groups;
Maintaining user accounts and passwords for staff in School Districts, BOCES, Regional Information Centers and other organizations that utilize the SED Delegated Account System;
Researching features of new computer hardware and software;
Preparing material for publication on the web and creating web pages; and
Working independently on projects.
Additional CommentsCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent contingent appointment.
Salary leads to $53,606 through annual performance advances.
