reconciling accounts, calculating payments, collecting, and analyzing statistics and information, or explaining policy or benefit information to the public.
Acceptable experience may include, but is not limited to, experience as law clerk/paralegal in a law firm or court, hospital/physician's business office representative, health/dental/vision insurance carrier customer service representative.
Note:
retail cashier/salesclerk experience with the primary function of checking out customers at a register will NOT be considered as qualifying for this examination.
ORAn Associate's degree or higher or 60 semester credit hours of college-level study.
OR30 semester credit hours of college-level study and 6 months of the experience described above.
Duties Description Under the general supervision of the Employees' Retirement System Examiner 3, the ERSE 2 examiner will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
o Confirm eligibility and initial benefit payments by interpreting and applying appropriate Retirement System Law, policy, and regulation.
o Perform adjustments involving complex mathematical equations.
o Determine benefit eligibility.
o Finalize retirement benefit payments.
o Receive and respond to the full range of inquiries from stakeholders.
o Oversee the processing of transactions.
o Develop and test modifications to existing automated correspondence and calculations due to changes in the law.
o Review and prepare member cases related to the New York State & Local Retirement Systems.
o Process retirement calculations that require application of specialized law and procedures.
o Function as technical supervisor of Office Assistants and ERSE 1s.
o Review calculations and work completed by staff and ensure compliance with all relevant policies, rules, regulations, and laws.
o Ensure the prompt and accurate processing of work unit assignments.
o Act as the unit's liaison with other units.
Additional Comments Telecommuting:
The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs.
Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks.
After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if any employee's duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so.
Upon approval to telecommute, OSC employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period.
Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
