Career & Technical Education - Albany Campus BASIC FUNCTION:
To instruct high school students in practices, procedures and skills associated with Cosmetology.
Responsibilities:
1.
The classroom instructor will teach the competencies and skills needed to pass the New York State practical and written licensing exams through a program that meets the state required 1,000 hours of instruction.
2.
Instruct on properties of the hair and scalp; bacteriology; decontamination & infection control; nail disorders; cells, anatomy & physiology; chemistry; artistry in hair styling of natural and artificial hair.
Explain the salon business and financial planning.
3.
Demonstrate to students how to apply theory and skills and strengthen competencies through hands-on experiences including a clinic open to the community and a salon internship.
4.
In addition to classroom, the instructor will be responsible for supervising and evaluating student progress in the work areas.
5.
To be responsible for developing and evaluating course plans.
6.
To develop in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the skills and knowledge in the industry.
7.
Instill in all students safe work habits, the importance of lifelong learning, and a work ethic that fosters reliability, competence, dependability and satisfaction with their own work.
