Under the direction of the Director and Assistant Director of Internal Affairs, the incumbent conducts confidential investigations of corruption, official misconduct and other suspected criminal wrongdoing, by Department of Taxation and Finance employees or individuals attempting to obstruct tax administration. Supervision of investigative staff may be required. The incumbent must be capable of carrying out duties and responsibilities of a peace officer as defined in Section 2.10 of the New York State Criminal Procedure law.
Job Function

Salary Range:
From $79410 to $99213 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Candidates must be eligible for appointment as a NYS Peace Officer as established under NYS Criminal Procedure Law section 2.10 and qualified to carry a firearm. Under Federal Law, unpardoned felons or persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are ineligible to carry firearms. Conviction of a felony or misdemeanor may bar candidates from appointment depending upon the relationship of the violation of law to the duties of the position. Candidates must be eligible for NYS and NYC pistol/carry license. Confidential Investigators are required to meet physical, medical and psychological standards. Candidate must possess valid New York State driver's license and be able to drive government vehicles and travel throughout New York State via car, train or other forms of mass transit. Overnight travel is required. Preferred
Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with gathering evidence in a computer-based organization. A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field; a Master's Degree in any field and at least one year of criminal investigative experience; or ten years of internal affairs investigative experience, including state and federal investigations of white-collar criminal activity. Current New York State Peace Officer and DCJS Defensive Tactics Instructor certification is desirable but not necessary.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
