he Deputy Director of Climate Mitigation works with the Climate Mitigation Director in the New York Division to support achieving the Nature Conservancy's mitigation, conservation and clean energy goals as part of the Climate Mitigation Team. The Deputy Director works with a cross-functional program team engaged in science, policy and regulation, energy, conservation, marketing, communications and fund raising efforts to achieve outcomes in New York and beyond. They develop innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools and frameworks to address mitigation and the natural system needs, engage local community support for local climate mitigation/conservation efforts, and implement innovative programs and solutions with internal and external stakeholders to conserve and protect natural resources. RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE Geographic size and scope is the New York Division. Supports the Climate Mitigation Director in creating, envisioning and implementing mitigation, conservation, and clean energy strategies. Supports work planning and budgeting process for the Climate Mitigation Team. Programmatic scope may require cross-boundary work and relationships. Leads team or project to support and improve climate mitigation efforts and other team outcomes. May manage staff and will manage projects and programs composed of staff across NY Teams. Work closely with Director to set measurable and appropriate outcomes for broader Climate Mitigation strategy. Work with Director and other NY staff on responses to various climate/clean energy regulatory proceedings on behalf of the NY Division and beyond. Work with Director and other NY staff on development or analysis of legislative proposals focused on climate change mitigation. Operationalize projects to optimal standards and administer project budgets Support Climate Mitigation Director in ensuring that public and private funds are raised to meet program needs. Builds cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals Frequently makes independent decision based on analysis, experience, and context. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BA/BS degree and 5 years' experience in conservation and clean energy practice or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines. Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance. Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies. Experience negotiating. Valid Drivers' License. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated. 5-7 years' experience in conservation and clean energy regulatory practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation and clean energy policy, regulations and plans. Deep understanding and demonstrated expertise of New York climate and clean energy policy, regulatory programs and goals. Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field. Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages. Adapt quickly and efficiently to changing priorities and program goals. Demonstrated experience in fundraising. Politically savvy.
Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
Corporate FinanceEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
